Hemis Monestary, Ladahk

India

Young boys are often sent to Tibetian monestaries so that they could be educated to read and write. Not all of them would remain monks. The monks in this part of Tibet (claimed by India) wore maroon cloaks. The monestary sits in a little side valley off the great Indus river valley near its source.
