Nose ring

The nose-ring in the young women in the veil is made of gold and is very heavy, so it is linked with a silver chain (somewhat hidden by her hand) to a ring on her left ear, which takes some of the weight off her nose ring. This kind of heavy (and expensive) ornamentation is worn only on special days like weddings or holy days.
